'Bring The House Down'

posted 2010-02-17

British/French female fronted punk rock band DEADLINE are back with this new album they entirely produced themselves, and we can only admit that they did quite a good as far as the production is concerned.
As opening track "The Trouble Is" and catchy songs like "What's Going On?" or "Sout It Out Loud" suggest, DEADLINE now privilege melody and songwriting rather than trying to play as hard and as fast as they can (AKA punk rock disease!.) But if you're into fast punk rock don't worry 'cause you'll still find a few up tempo punk rock songs on here ("Fraud", "99%" or"Na Na Na" and its cool bluesy guitars...) A song like "Bring The House Down" sounds a bit like a poppier version of The DISTILLERS, which is not a bad thing at all to me and "Sorry I Was Late" is a good pop punk number that can make your little sister dance.
You'll also find a cover of "These Boots Are Made For Walking", probably one of the most covered song in the music history! But DEADLINE did a good job with it and it's very hard to get fed up with such a great song anyway.... This all shows that DEADLINE actually has quite a broad field of influences, there's even an acoustic ballad ("Thorn In My Side") and (unfortunately) a ska song ("Two Heads") on here.
DEADLINE seems to be like wine, only getting better with age!/Laurent.
