'My Private Hell'

posted 2009-12-28

I bought the first TIGERTAILZ album when it was first released and as far as I can remember there's always been people who loved Steevi's voice and people who hated it! I belong to the first category, I just loved this raw, punky, street rock vocals mixed to catchy glam metal music on "Young and Crazy".
Steevi began his solo career under the name ST. JAIMZ on the very hard to find EP "Kick That Habit" before coming back to the name STEEVI JAIMZ on "Damned If I Do ... Damned If I Don't", an album I enjoyed much in the late 90s.
STEEVI JAIMZ is now back with "My Private hell", produced and co-written with Swedish producer Chris Laney and Anders Ringman. The opening song "Amazing" could fit somewhere in between MOTLEY CRUE's "Wildside" and early LYNCH MOB while we can definitely hear a Swedish touch in "Don't Say It's Over" though it was co-written with Ryan Roxie (ALICE COOPER / SLASH'S SNAKEPIT). You'll find a lot of OZZY OSBOURNE and KISS influences ("Something Good Something Bad") as well on this album and "Still Crazy" is more than a simple title reference to "Young and Crazy" since the verses also sound like early TIGERTAILZ. Big choruses, hooks and melodies, you'll find all the ingredients that make a good heavy rock album in these songs. Power ballad lovers will enjoy "I Don't Want To Walk Alone" and if you like it straight in your face, then just listen to "Little Sistah"!
I'm still waiting for a glam punk album a la NEW YORK DOLLS with Steevi on vocals because I think it would just be fantastic but I have to admit that "My Private Hell" is the best 80s influenced hard rock album I've heard in a long time!/Laurent.
