'Til Death Do us Party'

posted 2009-02-04

The Swedish band has been touring quite a lot since their first album "In Distortion We Trust", including opening for bands such as MOTORHEAD, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR or BACKYARD BABIES. This brand new album (out on French label Bad Reputation) was produced by Mats Levén (singer for THERION and Yngwie Malmsteen among others) and we can only notice that he did a great job in capturing the energy and heavy rockin' sound of the band.
On one hand it's not easy to be an all-female band in the rock'n'roll world but it can also be more than an advantage on the other one. Let's face it, most people (read boys!) in the rock community aren't that picky when some cute girls are hittin' a stage, concentrating more on the good looks than on the music itself. By touring a lot, sweatin' on stage and being professional about what they do, CRUCIFIED BARBARA managed to show that rockin' is what they're all about!
Armed with a new killer single "Sex Action" (not the L.A GUNS song!) in their studded handbags, CRUCIFIED BARBARA set the tone to their new album: heavier and catchier (headbangin'metal riffs and powerful choruses perfectly mix in "Pain And Pleasure".) It sometimes feels like Lita Ford jammin' with MEGADETH on a SKID ROW song!... The backing vocals couldn't be any better and the intro of "Creatures" is the best one I've heard in a long time.
You'll also get quieter moments with "Jennyfer" in which Mats Levén sings with lead singer Mia or "Danger Danger" (probably not a tribute to the 80s American band!) to an extent. Speaking of guests, MOTORHEAD's Phil Campbell plays a solo on "Dark Side", a song including a noteworthy power metal guitar riff. "Blackened Bones" is another strong moment on the album, powerful yet melodic!
And yes, being so hot probably doesn't help as far as global warming is concerned, but these girls are offering us "Til Death Do Us Party", , an amazing hard rockin' album in order to party until the world lights are totally off.../Laurent.
