David Bowie

'Live Santa Monica '72'

posted 2008-07-07

This live recording from the 1972 show at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is about to be released on both limited edition CD and 180-gram vinyl LP by Virgin/EMI. It has to be said that this was David Bowie’s first U.S. radio appearance as this was Ziggy Stardust’s first tour in America. So expect a raw, real live sound from those holy times and all the magic inherent to Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.
It’s amazing to think about how many of these 18 songs have become classics, most of them actually. From “Changes” to “Life On mars”, “Suffragette City”, “Five Years” or “Space Oddity” to name a few, they’re all on here! All played by the incredible Spiders From Mars and their unique guitar player Mick Ronson. Even though Bowie got influenced by various people throughout his career, his songs definitely influenced even more bands/artists through the years and the ones on this live album are his very best ones.
I personally can’t wait to see the double vinyl version of it. More than a simple live album, this is a testimony of the glam rock years, a glittery 1972 tribute… Remind me, what year was I born?/Laurent.
