Only a low morale due to a slight existential crisis could have prevented me to write this FLASH BOYS review on time… This album of Frankie Nowhere (ex-leader of the EASTSIDE SUICIDES)’s new band was released a few months ago and couldn’t wait anymore for my immediate praises. Even though the FLASH BOYS don’t sound as NEW YORK DOLLS as the EASTSIDE SUICIDES, they are also strongly impregnated with the spirit of the 70s and are offering us 13 amazing songs (among which you’ll find 2 cover songs –The JONESES and The FUN THINGS) full of adrenaline, an irrefutable proof of their immoderate love for The STOOGES, The DEAD BOYS or SLAUGHTER & The DOGS. Frankie (doing better than ever) and his furious trio (Jamey, Mark and Mike) obviously didn’t choose to change the small rock’n’roll world, but when rock’n’roll is played with such power, conviction and class, who could reasonably ask for a change? The FLASH BOYS seem to be an armada made for live shows (the energy and tension that can be felt in the few live samples I’ve found on the Internet are the perfect ingredients to make any audience jump into an irreversible trance) and they hit right in the middle of the target with this first studio album. One of the bestest of last year./Franckie.
