First, I was afraid that this band would be nothing more than one of those boring weed smoking stoner rock bands, but I was wrong! These guys seem to have a genuine love for the late 60s and early 70s, they even recorded this album (in 2003) with vintage equipment only and you can hear it throughout this CD! Sure they probably got heavily influenced by BLACK SABBATH but we can’t reduce BIGELF’s music to that. Indeed, they built their own sound using many more of their influences to consolidate their music, that’s why you can find traces of PINK FLOYD (“Disappear”), The BEATLES (“Rock’n’Roll Contract”), KING CRIMSON (“Bats in The Belfry I”) or even early QUEEN. At times, you also surprise yourself thinking about the Phantom Of The Opera while listening to “Hex”. Some may say that these guys are stuck in the past, so what? They do what they like and I can tell you that they do it very well… Moreover, I wouldn’t be surprised to see every KYUSS, TROUBLE or CORROSION OF CONFORMITY fan getting into BIGELF’s music as well! The US release date is set to October 30th so don’t miss it if you like 70s heavy rock!/Laurent.
