GOLDBLADE has been rocking for eleven years now and to be honest, I didn’t know much about them before I got sent this best of compilation CD. Anyway, as soon as the first song “Strictly Hardcore” starts you get the feeling that these guys didn’t get into punk rock just two years ago and you get the confirmation when you read that their front man John Robb wrote a 560 page book untitled “Punk Rock – The Oral History Of Punk”. GOLDBLADE’s music has definitely been influenced by punk pioneers and early oi! Street punk rock’n’roll, Dancehall punk rock or whatever, these are catchy anthemic songs in which you can find traces of The UNDERTONES, The BUZZCOCKS or The CLASH and if you know your rock’n’roll history then you’re aware that original glam rock also had a big influence on early punk rock. So if you’re like me and didn’t really know much about the band before, then this CD is the perfect album to get introduced to GOLDBLADE./Laurent.
