Flying Donuts/The Joystix

'This Machine Makes Loud Records (split CD)'

From skateboards to motorbikes?... This may sound a bit exaggerated but French punk rockers FLYING DONUTS definitely chose to give their songs a heavier edge on this split CD, giving the band a nice refreshing rock’n’roll sound while keeping their power pop sensibility as far as the melodies are concerned. While opening track “Make Loud Records” shows us the hard rock side of the DONUTS, you’ll find a bit of MOTORHEAD in “Runnin’ To Survive” and a WILDHEARTS influence in “Memories”, a killer song!... Speaking of The WILDHEARTS, they are probably a band that Hungarian rockers The JOYSTIX admire as well because, even though the most obvious comparison would be the BACKYARD BABIES, you can find a sense of melody in their songs that Ginger and friends would not deny. “21st Century Boy”, “Bad Love Situation” or “Secrets” all show that The JOYSTIX will keep on giving us a fix of what they’re the best at: high energy glam rock’n’roll!... In the end, these two bands that seem so different at first sight appear to get along very well on this split CD. Go for it!/Laurent.
