JOHNNY CRYPT

Most of you must think about Johnny as the bass player for L.A GUNS, but this guy has done much more and still rocks !  I've asked him about his new projects. Thanks to Spice (aka Bubblegum Disaster) who gave me his email address.

Can you give us a résumé of your musical activities ? Well let's see.. right now, I'm in a band called the jetset, it consists of two of the members from space age playboys (johnny Jetson, Stevie Deluxe) and a bass player from sweden named Rod Tielman. before this as you may know, i played bass in L.A guns for 4 years or so, toured all over the country and released 3 or 4 cd's with them.. I'm playing guitar right now. I've also got a thing of my own called PLaZMaHoLiX.. it's not a band, just me playing and singing stuff.. you can check that out at http://www.geocities.com/waycreepy.

How would you describe your new project ? PLaZMaHoLiX is mostly songs i've had for awhile but never played them in a band.. and pretty much just an outlet for me to play whatever style of music i want to.. The Jetset is a modern hard pop band.. good catchy songs, i'm really into it. PLaZMaHoLiX is not a real band, again it's all just me.

I've read that you wanted to use the Internet to sell your album, do you think that things are easier for a band today comparing to the time when there was no Internet ? Yes it is easier, but it is still a lot of hard work.. especially if you're an unknown band. but if you have a name, then it's pretty cool.

Have you heard about the trial between PUBLIC ENEMY and their record company concerning this issue ? And about the behaviour of METALLICA ? What's your opinion about these two cases ? No, i haven't heard about the public enemy trial, i do however know the metallica story.. i beleive the artist should be paid for their work, but in the same breath it is very cool to be able to download free music.. believe me it's all going to work itself out.. you have to go through something like napster to move on to the next thing, and i believe someone is out there as we speak writing the software to do it..

Have you played live recently ? How was the reaction ? Haha yeah we played last night actually and are going to play again tomorrow.. it's a cool vibe.. the clubs are small right now, but they are humble beginnings.. i just love playing, so every gig is cool to me. we are going to tour sweden in october, so these are kinda warm-up gigs.

Nowadays, many old bands play together again. Do you think that they're honest or that they just need money ? Well i think it's mostly money related.. have you ever broken up with someone, then tried to get back together again only to find out there was a good reason for breaking up in the first place? i've seen bands do that.. quite a few of them actually.. you know they can't stand each other, but it beats flipping burgers... so yeah i think it's mostly money.

What are the latest records that you've enjoyed ? Hmmmm well the last thing i listened to was mechanical animals.. amazing record. not too much after that.. i bought some ministry cd's i didn't have, they are great as well...

What do you like to do outside of music ? I try to walk 5 to 10 miles a day, also try to go to the gym at night.. i enjoy messing around on the computer as well.

Rock'n'roll is still alive but maybe less popular than in the past. Do you manage to live off music ? Not really.. it's feast or fathime in music.. when it's good it's good and when it's good you're having a good time and spending everything.. when it's bad it sucks and you wish it was good... :) i'm doing ok though.

Anything else to add ? thanks to everyone who has supported me, god bless you all, much love, enjoy the music.
