The NEW ROMANTICS "s/t"(CD.)
(official website)
In a time when nobody would have dreamed of a tool such as the Internet, I used to buy my vynil records just after a quick look at the musicians' look and attitude... a bit of make-up, tattoos, the compulsory hardware, sulky lips, appropriate clothes and haircut... that was my selection criteria. Purists won't understand but the music only came after that. In those times, I would have bought The New Romantics album without hesitation, and I would have been right because even if the eyeliner from my youth is carefully applied in these early 2004 days under the Phoenix, AZ sun and even if the members wear the perfect clothes (though it can look weird that the drummer -who still plays great- doesn't seem to fit among the others!), the songs of this record are as jarring as all of this. By way of proof, every time I feel like playing air guitar, rolling on the floor or jumping like a demented, you can be sure that an awesome album is in my CD player! Craziness is not momentary with The New Romantics. Heady choruses, frantic guitars, piano, harmonica, backing vocals reminding of Syl Sylvain or "Sympathy For The devil" are dragging the listener into a musical whirlwind which can only release you when going back to the arms of Morpheus. There's some real glammy, punky and heavy rock jewels in this album which all are real adrenalin eruptions, holy bread in the hands of those whose hearts are tired of years and years of radio rubbish. This sounds like early L.A Guns proofread by the Trashcan Darlings.
/Franckie.
