LTNO is back with a new killer album called "Sea, Sex & Burn". From Paris to L.A, put your red lipstick on, get ready to dance and hear what Emmanuelle 5 has to say...

I've heard that you were living in Los Angeles now, is that true?
Yes it's true, half in LA, half in Paris. I love L.A, it's more rock & roll. they keep the spirit of glam...people like to dress up...

Do you think that L.A had an influence on the new album? What's the main difference between this album and the first one?
Yes a big influence. But it's funny, I found the concept/title of the album before I moved...the songs are more direct, simple, organic on the new one, the production of "Global Cut" was very cold....

Some songs on "Sea, Sex & Burn" definitely have an electroclash sound, the style being quite popular these days, how have the reactions (media...) been so far? The situation is very different in France, in the USA or in Germany, Electroclash is more an attitude, and attitude in France seems to be something suspect, superficial. Since 3 years, there's just been a lot of new creative bands, with a fresh feeling, it's not just a revival, and it's happening in Berlin, New York, L.A, but not in Paris...we don't care if the media call it electroclash, Nu Wave, ElectroPunk...it's just exciting....

The image has always been important to you and the new promo pics look very glam, was it a conscious choice to come back to a more glam image, less goth-oriented(even though you've always looked kinda glammy)?
Yes, the concept of "Global Cut" was: computer world domination, and in general new dictatorship, (mediatic/economic), so we chose something very anonymous for the design, without any human faces, the high energy was hidden in the music ....the new one is the return of the ego...

The US always have had image oriented bands (NY Dolls, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson... just to name a few) and has always been at the same time a quite puritan country compared to France for instance. Nevertheless, just a few bands have a "shocking" image in France... Do you think that it's just a matter of taste and culture? what's your opinion on that?
France is not a country for Rock, we were a great country for shocking/ provocation, but more in the past with a lot of great writers/artists....like Marquis de Sade, Lautreamont, Georges Bataille, Guy Debord....The Dadaist, Surealist, Situationist...they were the first Punks to me.

Do you still use a naked man as a mic stand?... And do you still do "2 person showcases" like you did at the Eurockéennes festival a few > years ago? Are these things part of the LTNO concept?
no, it's over with the human mic stand. We're working with another friend "Gwen" who's doing stupid/Trashy happening on stage... yes we have no limits with LTNO, just desire, we like new experiences...

You already played in NY.. how were the reactions? Did you see any difference between playing there and playing in France?
In New York and in the USA, there's many clubs everywhere, people are more used to go out, just having a drink , watching a band live, it's considered as normal...in France and especially in Paris, since 10 years all the clubs were just for DJs...so ...but it's starting to change again...people are just bored to see DJs playing same bad house music...it's my feeling...

The French press talked about LTNO quite often lately, are you satisfied with the promo and the work done by your label?
The French Rock media are followers...they don't take any risk...I'm OK with my label now...they're better than my last label Naive.

What bands/albums have you enjoyed lately?
Electrocute, D4, Fat Trucker, the last Buzzcocks, The Faint, BRMC, Mount Sims, The Droyds, Le Tigre, The Rapture, The Hives, Lipstick Sick...

Have you got a regular band or do musicians come and go?
Both, we 're 5 on stage now , D bass player (he produced the album too), Jack (drum), Stephan Gens ( guitar) , DJ ludo (turntable) and me Vocal/guit...

What are your projects?
A tour with LTNO in Autumn (France/UK/Eastern Europe), a DVD road movie (live shooting, backstage...multi experiences...), the first mini-album(with a cover of "Born to loose"J thunders) out in october ( www.electro-shock-records.de) of my side project The Dead Sexy Inc ...Dj set with Dead Sexy (nuwave/electro punk mix) ....fun,Vodka and Rock &roll!

Anything else to add?
Read "Dead Elvis" or "Lipstick Traces" by Greil Marcus, it's great....
