L.A GUNS "Shrinking
Violet".
(Axe Killer)
A new L.A GUNS album as a meal with LOVE/HATE's singer. The ingredients are
tempting, but what about the taste ? Well, that's all good ! "King Jizzo"'s
voice perfectly suits to the Hollywood veterans's punkish hard rock and gives
an amazing and dynamic cohesion to the whole. They deliberately chose to
come back to their roots playing songs sounding more sleaze rock than glam.
The voice is low-pitched/middle register unlike their last releases, a thing
that I can only appreciate, and Traci Guns is definitely a good guitar-player
who knows the tricks of the trade and lets his guns do the talking. Obviously,
one can't get away from the milk-and-water ballad (Axl ?) and from the anecdotal
blues offering nothing new (but a root production.) Anyway, the whole is
rockin'and even original (in the style) at times (for instance, their sublime
"Decide" which quite reminds me of "Kashmir" from who you know.) However,
I'm a little bit disappointed : This album will be the only one with this
line-up, the original one playing together again...Business will be business
!
Omok.
