Kevin
K & The REAL KOOL KATS "Perfect Sin" CD.
(Official Website)
(Full Breach Kicks)
After
having been around Freddy Lynxx for a long time, Kevin K, from New York
has decided to explore the French network again and get the very experienced
REAL KOOL KATS as a backing band. That was a judicious choice since
I got lucky enough to see them live and I can tell you that there's
a real cohesiveness in this band and that the machine really works at
its full!!! Whereas "Kiss Of Death" was considered as their best
release so far, "Perfect Sin" (3rd album of the band) seems to
be even more achieved and explores more musical fields than before.
If the Stooges, Ramones and Johnny Thunders(Kevin's solos are always
a real treat) influences as well as this incredible ability to write
harrowing ballads ("Sometime"-an introspective song- is a real
jewel) are still the band's trademark, we found out on this new album
some unprecedented incursion in the country music universe with "Hanging
On The Eightball", some tough power pop on "LXXS" (a real
hit), but also quieter atmospheres and some saxophone parts that could
have been on Alison Gordy's "Blonde & Blue". Kevin K and his
accomplices are currently on tour in Europe and should get a wider audience
that don't know them yet which should result in a very well deserved
interest.
