HELALYN FLOWERS "Disconnection" (CD)
(Official Website)
This CD comes from Italy and this is not a glam metal/hair band this time. HELALYN FLOWERS is actually an electro-rock duo with a glamorous image...It seems like Max and Noemi didn't really chose to be a duo like many do these days because of the global indie trend, the biography says that they just couldn't find any bass player so they had to hire one for this 5 song CD. Actually, the bass (or the way it is mixed) annoys me a bit on the first song "Acid Love Code". The band's music is a mix of various influences but it could be described as a kind of electro rock with metal guitars, pop melodies and a slight industrial touch. You'll even hear trip-hop beats now and then. Noemi (the really beautiful female singer)'s vocals make me think of LACUNA COIL at times and EVANESCENCE at other times, so yeah this stunning lady can sing! The duo gives a lot of importance to their image and art-work (nice pink and white colours and cool CD booklet) and this something which is always much appreciated. The whole visual aspect reminds me of "Mechanical Animals". The songs on this CD are quite good even though the mix of all these different influences can sometimes appear as confusing to the hear. But well, don't forget that this is HELALYN FLOWERS' first CD and even if they still need to strengthen their musical identity, they did a really good job with this debut release. I am curious to see what will come in the future.
