Street Tales "A
Tribute to HANOI ROCKS" v/a.
(Guru
Records/Feed Back Boogie Records.)
I think that I don't need to say how HANOI ROCKS was a major band in the
(true) rock'n'roll history, but I can tell you that this band has been
really important to me : they had been a kind of bridge to punk rock to
me because they had this raw punk rock'n'roll sound and attitude.
Let's talk about this record now, well, here we have fifteen more
or less underground bands showing their respect to the Finnish Gods of
the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. My favourite cover songs are "Taxi Driver"
(BUBBLE), "Don't You Ever Leave Me" (HARDCORE SUPERSTAR), "I Can't Get
It" (HUNDRED MILLION MARTIANS), "Cafe Avenue" (Jeff DAHL & The STREETWALKIN'CHEETAHS),
"Rebel On The Run" (AMERICAN HEARTBREAK), "Back To Mystery City" (The
JACKALS) and "Futurama" (The JETSET.) In fact, most bands do a good job,
and if you're a HANOI addict, you'll be moved once again. If you're not,
don't forget that it's never too late, go and pick up their records !
Now, what I'd like to see is a volume II with bands such as The SCARECROWS,
BACKYARD BABIES, SUGAR SHOCK, The GUTTER QUEENS, etc.
Laurent.
