FREDDY
LYNXX & The CORNER GANG "Full Cover" CD
(Contact)
I've always felt affection and real respect for Freddy Lynxx since "
Larger Than Life", the first and sharp JET BOYS album. Indeed, respect
because since that day, Freddy never denied his influences or never
involved his talented self in music projects that didn't fit him. Coming
out in an original package and visually emphasized with 3d pictures,
"Full Cover", his new production is no exception to the rule,
not even in the slightest way since it is a cover album. This can be
a funny project to give a new youth to songs that are for the most part
outdated and even quite obscure for some (Spirits, Lollipops.) Nevertheless,
Freddy and his blood brothers -who gathered around him during each of
his stops- make these songs their own without insulting their fathers
and even managed to transcend some (their version of "In Cold Blood"
for instance is even better than the one of the master John Anthony
Genzale.) As soon as the intro of "Soul Power" starts, we can
feel the magic and song after song, it is delightful to hear Freddy
grinding his Gibson Les Paul Junior's strings in order to give life
again to the Stones, the Heartbreakers, MC5 or Chuck Berry, a music
style that most people would consider as quite obsolete but which has
everything to make the new generations move. Cooked up by one of France's
most talented musicians but, unfortunately also one of the most underated,
"Full Cover" is a beautiful album, a tribute to youth heroes,
friends and just rock'n'roll.
